September 27 - The Gorge (56)

Cousin Ginny, Ant and Julia (visiting from Botswana) and I set out from the VCKC beach to paddle down to the inner harbour. Nice conditions. There was a strong ebb as we were heading down stream, but it had almost ended by the time we returned. The Johnson street bridge went up while we were in the harbour.

Hi Mike,
Just in here enjoying seeing what adevntures you've had this fall! Had to comment on that bridge lifting - my sister and I were on shore one day (I was out visiting) when it lifted for a tug pulling a barge. Those tugs don't slow down one iota!! I guess he'd done it a time or two because there was no room to spare on either side and the barge is a fair way behind the tug but he flew through there like he knew what he was doing! I was waiting for the barge to take out the bridge or swing out and hit shore but no....interesting to watch!
Merry Christmas to you and your family Mike! And many, many miles and wonderful adventures in 2008!
