Jan 31 - Portland (#6)

I decided to get out of my “home turf” and head out of Amherst, Sidney, with dan and John. We had a great paddle in good conditions, fighting a bit of a head wind on the return. We met up with Dennis and Sue on Portland and joined them for lunch.

Saw some nice innukshuks on the north side – photos at http://picasaweb.google.com/mhjackson123/20090131_portland

Jan 24th - Chatham (#5)

Dorothea, George, Dennis, Tom, Douglas, Simon, Gordin and I set out from Caddy Bay on a SISKA “adventurous” paddle. There was a bit of wind and it was quite cool, but very little current. We went over to Chatham, checked out “cactus inlet” and then had lunch on a beach facing Mt Baker. A very nice day on the water. No current in the “sluice” on the way home.

Jan 24th - Pool session

I organised a SISKA pool session at the Crystal Pool and a dozen of us had a productive couple of hours of rescues, bracing and/or rolling.

The highlight for me was getting my hand roll nailed as well as doing several successful throwing stick (norsaq) rolls.

Jan 18 - Maynard Cove (#4)

Monica and I went for a morning paddle out to Maynard Cove and back. It was bright and sunny and beautiful, though a bit chilly with a north wind.

I couple of photos from the day:

Jan 17th - Discovery - a wonderful winter paddle (#3)

Dan and I joined Michel, Yves, Dorothea, Patti and Nick (from Scotland) to paddle out around the islands. Dan and I set out a bit earlier and managed to catch some waves in Baynes. We had a deloightful paddle in wonderful conditions. We also got to play a bit in the “sluice” between Vantreight and east Chatham. The wind picked up a bit from the North on the way back as you can see our speed went down quite a bit

Jan 6 - Oak Bay (#2)

Dan and I went for an afternoon paddle out into the bay. It was a bit rainy and windy but not too bad in a dry suit! We paddled through the two marina’s and checked out a couple of high and dry boats. It was good to get another paddle in before heading back to work tomorrow!

Jan 5th - first paddle of the year (#1)

George and I snuck out for a short paddle around Cadboro Bay. Conditions were good and a small ebb at 10 mile point. We saw the elephant seal pup in Maynard cove and I spent a few minutes suefing an overfall at the point. A great start to the paddling year!

I also was trying out my new paddling camera, a Pentax w60… I like the wide angle.
