April 22 and 23 - Schoen Lake (#s 14 and 15)

While we were camped at Schoen Lake Provincial Park, I went for a couple of paddles. The first was an afternoon paddle on arrival - quite windy - and the second was the next morning where I went to the end of the lake and back. Saw a couple of Barrow's Goldeneye pairs as well as common mergansers and of course many American robins! Also heard many varied thrush and some grouse drumming.

April 18 - Heriot Bay (#13)

While we were camped at Heriot Bay on Quadra Island, I went for a short paddle around the Bay. It was cool to see the pillow basalts on Heriot Island as well as the many sand dollars in the bay. The tide was just high enough to make it around the island!

April 11&12 - Port Renfrew (#10, 11 &12)

I went to the Ocean river Port Renfrew Paddling Symposium as an assistant instructor. I helped Finn and Beth-Anne with Rock Gardening on the first morning, Justine for intermediate surfing on the first afternoon and then Mike and Justine for rock gardening on the second morning. We had great participants and fun in spite of low swells.

April 4 - Discovery (#9)

I paddled out to Cadboro Point to meet Dan and Paulo and we went for a great paddle around the islands. Sunny and calm with a strong ebb current running. You can see from the track that we received quite a boost on the southbound section and that I got carried well down Baynes on my way back across. I barely made it up past Cadboro Point to meet Dan and Paulo! Saw quite a few long tailed ducks, black turnstones, black oystercatchers as well as a couple of red-necked grebes. baker was barely visible in the distant haze and I could not make out Rainier. Just made it to 50 km for the year!
