March 13 - Horne Lake (#13)

I went for a solo paddle/peddle in the Hobie on Horne Lake while we were camped there. We basically had the park to ourselves and we had good weather.

December 23rd - Cadboro crabbing (#126)

I took the Hobie i12s out for an afternoon crabbing run, basically checking the traps and refilling the bait jars. The Hobie worked well as it is stable and has plenty of deck space. No keepers... The bay was beautifully calm at sunset and I was the only one out! The hobie is definitely slower than my regular sea kayaks, but I should try taking it over to the islands.

July 18th - Cadboro bay (#60)

I took the Hobie inflatable out for an after dinner peddle/paddle/sail in the bay. I had ordered a sail kit for the Hobie but was originally sent the wrong one. The correct one recently arrived, so this was a first test. The wind was in the 5-10 kph range so was good for testing but did not get things going too fast! When I combined pedalling and sailing, I was able to go reasonably fast.

March 3rd - Staines Islet (#19)

I went for a quick after work pedal in the hobie i12s. Conditions were wonderful and I experimented with seat positions and pedal settings . It seemed to work pretty well by the end! I was able to maintain a 6 kph average over the trip.

February 13th - Cadboro Bay (#12)

I took the inflatable hobie i12s out for a spin around the bay. The mirage drive is neat and I can see that it will be good for fishing as your hands can be free. In spite of cycling regularly, I discovered that the pedal drive uses different muscles, so I will have to work up to longer trips! It seems like I can get it to cruise along at just under 6 kph pretty comfortably.Very stable and smooth ride.
