November 4th - Oak Bay (#27)

I joined Michael, Ali and Jo for a coaching session with Gordon Brown. Lots of great tips and I was tired at the end of the day even though we only went 5k! As you can see from the track we were between the Oak Bay Beach Hotel and the Marina. Conditions were not bad and we had several nice rainbows!

April 5th - Oak Bay to Cadboro Bay via the Islands (#36)

I joined a group organized by Gary to paddle out and around the Islands from Turkey Head/Oak Bay Marina. We made our way past the Oak Bay Beach Hotel  to Gonzales Point before heading out to the Chain group and the Islands. We had spectacular conditions and a nice lunch break in Rudlin Bay. I am not sure when I have seen so many boats out and around the Islands! The birding was good and I saw marbled murrelets in summer plumage! ( https://ebird.org/canada/checklist/S84889527)

October 28th - Turkey head (#103)

Pete and I led another session with students. This time we launched from turkey head and paddled around the head and through the marina over to GNS. We saw the Wednesday group coming back. We managed to have great conditions again! Celebrated the end of the series of afternoons with a delicious hot chocolate with whipped cream!

March 10th - Trial Island and Chain Islets (#12)

I led a group of 20 SISKA paddlers from Oak Bay Marina around to Trial Island and then back out to the Chain Islets after a lunch break at the golf course. Conditions were good with the wind between 5 and 10 knots most of the time and the sea rippled for most of the time. The current turned to flood sooner than I expected, so there was a bit of current around Trial Island. It was great to meet some new paddlers and reconnect with many friends!
