August 30th - Jemmy Jones (#77)

I managed to get out for a second "paddle" today. This time I took the Oarboard SUP for a row out to Jemmy Jones. Given the sore muscles and blisters, this definitely uses different systems than kayaking! An interesting side effect of going backwards is that you see how many seals follow you! Downside is that you aren't looking where you are going! :)

October 26th - Jemmy Jones Island (#89)

After the sun came out, I went for an afternoon row with the Oarboard and the Starboard touring SUP. It was a gorgeous afternoon on flat water. I saw a few kayakers out as well as a few SUPers. I also ran into Dylan who was trying to make his 49er move in minimal wind!

August 6th - Cadboro Bay #2 - (#61)

I went for a second trip around the bay, this time with the oarboard rig on the starboard 12ft 6in touring SUP board. The oarboard rig is significantly faster and easier to control directionally than just standing and I found myself working up quite a sweat! I stopped for a nice chat with Tim by Staines Island. Looking at the second image below, you can see that the evening track is mostly blue and the morning track mostly green...

June 19th - Cadboro Bay (#50)

I took Zyoji's starboard 12 ft 6 in touring SUP out for a morning row and an evening paddle and was very impressed. It is very stable and tracks nicely. With the oarboard rig, it rows very nicely and I was able to maintain a nice pace. I think this is the best board I have used with the oardboard. In the evening I went for a nice paddle and it also paddles well, tracking much better than the other boards I have tried.
You can definitely see a dramatic difference in the pace I maintain using the oarboard rig vs the paddle!

May 19th - Cadboro Bay (#34)

I went out for an after dinner test of the oarboard on the inflatable SUP. The inflatable board worked pretty well though I discovered that shorts with low friction are not good for rowing - I kept sliding off the seat! The bay was pretty quiet after a busy holiday weekend!

April 19th - Cadboro Point (#25)

Sean and I went on our paddleboards out to Cadboro Point. I was using the oarboard which performed very well in the calm conditions. This is my third time out and it is feeling good! I have almost figured out the best way to wheel it down to the beach! Due to its width, it is a bit more complicated than a kayak...

April 4th - Oarboarding in the bay (#19)

I decided to take the oarboard out again for a quick spin in the bay. My rowing technique is not great, but I was able to re-purpose my Tony's bike trailer to wheel the SUP board and rowing rig down to the beach. I am impressed with how fast the rowing rig gets the SUP going.

March 9 - Cadboro Bay (#17)

I picked up a Whitehall rowing Oarboard to go with my SUP and decided to give it a spin this afternoon. Though not sea kayaking, I have decided to include SUP mileage in my blog this year... So here goes! I assembled the system  and then strapped it on to my ATX board. It was a very solid fit. My neighbour Dan helped me walk it down to the beach as it is a bit more awkward than the board alone. To my pleasant surprise, I remembered how to scull and was making my way across the bay in short order. I don't think I was keeping the pace I would in one of my Tahe's, but it was getting close at times. I think with some improvement in skill on my part, I can see that this will be a very fun full body workout in the bay. The SUP board is nice and stable in the sculling configuration and much faster than when being paddled. This is going to be fun!
