July 30 - Cadboro Bay (#22)

I took the starboard SUP out so that I could dump some salmon carcasses in deep water...  Results of a successful fishing trip!

September 6th - Cadboro Bay (#65)

I managed to get out for a short afternoon paddle on the SUP. Conditions were nice with a bit of a wind coming into the bay. I saw Ned and George in the boats as I paddled through RVYC

June 27th- Cadboro bay (#51)

I went for an early SUP to avoid the heat (might have been better todo it later in the day and fall in!) and to deposit some crab shells back into the bay. It was a beautiful morning and I had a leisurely paddle looking for birds.  Though there were not many species, most were different from my usual! belted kingfisher, greater yellowlegs and many purple martins around the yacht club docs. The nest boxes must be working! https://ebird.org/canada/checklist/S90909396

February 1st - Cattle Point (#12)

Dan and I went for a nice afternoon SUP paddle out to Cattle point. We managed to miss the rain and the wind as Dan wanted to try SUPing again. It was nice to be up high and seeing the water from a different perspective. No murrlets today, but we did not go very far from shore. Not as many species as normal but we still saw most of the usual suspects! https://ebird.org/canada/checklist/S80292520

January 8th - Cadboro bay (#4)

I decided to go for a quick SUP paddle around the bay before sunset. Conditions were idyllic and there were lots of people on the beach. I saw some nice birds as usual, though the highlight was seeing a Cooper's hawk as I walked back up the street to the house! https://ebird.org/canada/checklist/S78908827

October 5th - Cadboro bay (#71)

I went for a quick afternoon paddle to drop off some freezer burnt crab bait into the ocean! It was nice to see how quick it was to decide to go for a paddle on the board, go and come back!

August 1st - Cadboro bay (#63)

I went for an after dinner SUP paddle along the south shore of Caddy bay. This was to avoid the SW wind. It was very peaceful with few other boaters out. I saw several great blue herons feeding, belted kingfishers, river otters, a ruddy turnstone, Canada geese, and some unidentified shorebirds... I also checked out a few boats at the yacht club!

July 10th - Cadboro Bay SUP (#58)

I went out a second time today, this time for a lesson from Sam at Gyro Beach Board Shop on paddling a SUP. She gave me a bunch of good pointers and I was definitely paddling more efficiently and straighter by the end. SUPing is growing on me!

June 29th - Cattle Point (#54)

I took advantage of nice afternoon conditions for a leisurely paddleboard over to Cattle Point by way of RVYC. It was nice to go slow and watch wildlife - including eagles at the nest and kelp crabs on kelp! You can see from the track that the wind and current were from the S & SE, though the wind was not that strong.

May 28th - Cadboro Bay (#44)

I took the paddleboard out to check the crab traps and came home with a nice limit of dungeness crab! The board is big enough and stable enough that I was able to bring up and bring in the traps. The weather was beautiful and the sky clear enough that I could see all the way to Mt. Rainier.

may 11th - Cadboro Bay (#38)

I went out for a quick paddle around the inner bay on the Starboard SUP. I am definitely not as fast on a SUP, though I do enjoy the higher perspective for viewing into the water.

April 5th - Evans Rock and Loon bay (#s18&19)

I went out in the afternoon to check the crab traps (enough for dinner!) and went around Evans rock. there were a few black turnstones on Evans Rock which is the first time I have seen them this year. After I got back I decide to head out again for a SUP paddle and went over to Loon Bay. Conditions were nice for both paddles with a light(10-15 kph) northerly wind.
