Dan, Paolo and I set out from Cadboro Bay to paddle around Discovery. I was able to walk down the road from our new house on Killarney. Very convenient! Nice conditions with a strong ebb all morning. We had to fight a strong ebb, making little progress at times, from Discovery to the Chain islets. No more paddling for me until next month when I am vback from Ecuador.
17.5 km, 9.5 NM, YTD 618 km.
George and I set out from beside the Gorge rowing club to paddle down to the inner harbour for the fireworks. Lots of boats on the water of all sizes! We had a great paddle along the shore to Larel Point and then turned back to “park” ourselves by the undersea gardens. The show was spectacular and the sounds were loud with many echoes. A great show and no crowds compared to on land! Photos were a bit tricky…
6 km, 3 NM, YTD: 600 km
George, Dan, Doug, Christian and I set out from the beach at Gorge and Craigflower and padddled down to the harbour and then out to the Ogden Point area. On the way we took in the tall ships festival which was fun. The ships looked great from the kayak perspective! The weather was spectacular – summer is funally here!

Heike, Dan and I set of at 9:30 AM for a paddle around Discovery. There was a reasonable ebb and a light SW wind. We played for a bit in the standing waves and then made our way around counter clockwise. Heike and I were paddling our feathercraft wispers which performed well. I also got to test the windpaddle on my feathercraft and it worked well there too. Suuny and nice, though there was an ominous halo around the sun…

I spent the day at Cadboro Bay helping with the MEC paddlefest which seemed like a great success. Lots of fun things to look at and lots of people came by. Dennis and I snuck out for a quick paddle to Jemmy Jones Island after the paddlefest was over.

I spent the past week co leading and teaching on an experiential education trip to the Broughton archipelago. We set out from Alder Bay on June 4th and camped on Hanson and Mound Island as well as Kaikash Creek. More to come later…
